Achievers University has advanced its strategic expansion of postgraduate education following the resource verification exercise conducted by an 18-member National Universities Commission (NUC) Team.
The exercise, held from Thursday, 27 to Friday, 28 August 2026, assessed the University’s readiness to offer additional postgraduate programmes including LL.M., M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Law; PGD, M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Geology, Microbiology and Public Health; and PGD, M.Eng., M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
The verification constitutes an important regulatory step in the University’s plan to expand its College of Postgraduate Studies and build a stronger institutional ecosystem for advanced scholarship, multidisciplinary research, innovation and professional development.
Receiving the NUC resource persons during a courtesy visit to the University Management, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Omolola O. Irinoye, commended the Commission for its role in safeguarding academic quality and maintaining minimum standards that Universities cannot go below across the Nigerian university system.
She described the NUC’s quality-assurance framework as essential to sustaining the credibility of Nigerian university education nationally and internationally.
“On behalf of the Council and Management of Achievers University, we appreciate the National Universities Commission for its continued commitment to quality and standards in the Nigerian university system,” she said.
Professor Irinoye also thanked the resource persons for accepting the assignment and travelling from different parts of the country to participate in the exercise, describing their engagement as a demonstration of commitment to the future of higher education and national development.
She stated that the University had worked diligently within the applicable NUC guidelines to provide the academic personnel, facilities, learning resources and institutional support required for the proposed programmes.
The Vice-Chancellor, however, emphasised that Achievers University regarded external quality-assurance exercises not merely as regulatory requirements but as opportunities for institutional learning and continuous improvement.
“For us, resource verification and accreditation exercises provide opportunities to improve the quality and standards of our programmes. External assessors often see beyond what those within the system may readily identify, and their objective observations help institutions become stronger,” she said.
Professor Irinoye assured the team of the University’s openness to constructive recommendations and Management’s readiness to address identified areas for improvement. She reaffirmed the University’s commitment to its core values of Knowledge, Integrity and Leadership, noting that the proposed programmes were conceived to advance knowledge production, ethical scholarship, innovative research and transformational leadership.
Speaking on behalf of the resource verification team, Prof. Binta Dalhat thanked the Vice-Chancellor and University Management for their cooperation to make the exercise a success.
She explained that the exercise was designed to assess the University’s preparedness for the proposed postgraduate programmes against the NUC’s prescribed academic guidelines and standards.
She assured the University that the assessment would be conducted with fairness, transparency and objectivity, while seeking the cooperation of Management, academic departments and other relevant stakeholders.
