ACHIEVERS UNIVERSITY SIGNS MOU ON GATEWAY TO GLOBAL EDUCATION AND CAREER OPPORTUNITIES WITH CANADIAN EDUCATION COUNCIL

Achievers University, Owo, continues to expand its global reach with the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Canadian Education Council. This strategic partnership is set to unlock a wealth of international opportunities for students and faculty, enhancing their academic and professional trajectories in today’s interconnected world.

A Global Education Partnership
The Canadian Education Council, a federally registered body in Canada, functions similarly to the British Council in Nigeria, promoting Canadian education across the globe. Dr. Adeniyi John, Co-Director of the Canadian Education Council, expressed his excitement about the partnership, emphasizing its significance in providing students and faculty members with access to global educational resources and career opportunities.

The MoU outlines two major areas of collaboration
Global Internship Program: Achievers University students and faculty members will now have the opportunity to participate in a global internship program. This initiative allows students to gain practical experience in their fields of study, either remotely or on-site, with leading organizations around the world. The program is designed to equip participants with the skills and experience needed to excel in the global job market.

International Career Center (ICC): Achievers University will establish an International Career Center (ICC) on its campus, which will serve as a hub for various educational and professional development programs. The ICC will focus on offering English as a Second Language (ESL) courses, study abroad programs, and employment tests for professionals in the medical and technical fields. The center will also facilitate global mobility programs, enabling students to engage in educational and cultural exchanges with institutions abroad.

Bridging the Gap Between Education and Employment
The partnership will see the Canadian Education Council Utilizing Achievers University’s 500-capacity Computer-Based Testing (CBT) center to conduct professional competency tests for medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists, microbiologists, and physiotherapists. These tests are designed as placement assessments, similar to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exams, helping to match candidates with appropriate career opportunities based on their performance. Students and professionals interested in participating in the global internship program will be able to access a range of opportunities, including remote work and on-site internships in countries like Canada and the UK. The program offers competitive earnings ranging from $5 to $35 per hour, depending on the individual’s skills and the organization they work with.

Supporting Career Development
In addition to facilitating internships and employment opportunities, the ICC will play a crucial role in mentoring students and professionals on how to present themselves to international employers. From resume writing to interview preparation, the center will provide comprehensive support to ensure that Achievers University graduates are well-prepared to succeed in the global job market.
The Canadian Education Council will also offer job subscription services, granting access to a network of over 10,000 companies worldwide. However, Dr. Adeniyi John stressed that success in the global job market requires more than just passing exams; it also demands a strong understanding of what international employers are looking for, which the ICC aims to instill in its participants.

A Bright Future Ahead
The MoU between Achievers University and the Canadian Education Council marks a significant milestone in the university’s journey toward becoming a globally recognized institution. By providing students and faculty with the tools and opportunities to succeed internationally, Achievers University is not only enhancing its academic offerings but also ensuring that its graduates are competitive on a global scale.
Dr. Adeniyi John expressed his optimism about the future of the partnership, highlighting the mutual benefits it will bring to both institutions. “We are very happy to be here and look forward to a bright future for both the Canadian Education Council and Achievers University,” he said. This partnership is a testament to Achievers University’s commitment to excellence in education, and it promises to open new doors for students and faculty members, enabling them to achieve their full potential in a rapidly changing world.
