Twelve (12) students of Achievers University, Owo, have returned with impressive performances and national recognition as they joined 318 other athletes to represent Ondo State in both field and track events at the maiden Niger-Delta Sports Festival 2025 held at Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Kelvin Ahmadu, a 300-level student of Biomedical Engineering, received a gold medal in men’s volleyball, showcasing exceptional skill and teamwork throughout the competition. In the men’s basketball category, Odunayo Babalola, a 300-level student of Political Science, contributed significantly to his team’s success, helping Ondo State secure a silver medal after a series of intense matches. Stephanie Obianyo, a 400-level student of Medical Laboratory Science, caught the attention of national selectors with her stellar performance in the female volleyball team. Her efforts not only contributed to Ondo State’s competitiveness in the festival but also earned her a coveted spot on the Nigerian National Female Volleyball Team.
Other outstanding student-athletes include Bamidele Ayomide (Political Science) – 400m Male; Utham Peace (Political Science) – 4 X 100m Relay Male; Afolabi Faith (Medical Laboratory Science) – Shot Put Female; Balogun Mofeoluwa (Nursing) – Chess Female; Adegboro Victoria (Nursing) – Chess Female; Odebe Cecilia (Law) – Chess Female; Ibilewa David (Medicine) – Chess Male; Adediran Temiloluwa (Biomedical Engineering) – Chess Male; and Ogheneejiro Uduvwotayin (Nursing) – Scrabble Female.
During a courtesy visit to his office, the Pro-Chancellor of Achievers University, Hon. Dr. Bode Ayorinde, expressed immense pride in the students’ achievements, describing their performance as a powerful reflection of the University’s rising profile. He urged them to bring the same energy and commitment to their academic pursuit and reaffirmed the University’s dedication to developing sports infrastructure and talent.
In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Omolola Irinoye, congratulated the students on their exemplary representation of Ondo State at the sports event, noting that their success is a source of pride and inspiration for the University community.
