NURSING AND MIDWIFERY COUNCIL INDUCTS 163 ACHIEVERS UNIVERSITY GRADUATES AT 6TH OATH-TAKING CEREMONY

One hundred and sixty-three graduates of the Faculty of Nursing Science, Achievers University, Owo, were on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, inducted into the nursing profession by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN). The ceremony, which marked the 6th Induction and Oath-Taking of the Faculty was held at the Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed Auditorium.

Administering the oath on behalf of the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of the NMCN, Dr. Alhassan Ndagi, the Council’s representative, Mrs. Oluwaseun Olanihun, charged the new nurses to uphold the ethics of the profession, be polite to their patients, and maintain strict confidentiality in all dealings.

“You are reminded of the obligations you are undertaking. Endeavor to alleviate suffering, promote health, prevent illness, and refrain from any action that might endanger life. Respect patient dignity, maintain confidentiality, and keep personal information private,” she said.
She further urged the inductees to remain current in their professional knowledge, collaborate with other healthcare team members, and adhere strictly to the NMCN’s Standards of Practice.

In her address, the Vice-Chancellor of Achievers University, Prof. Omolola Irinoye, congratulated the new nurses for their resilience and commitment throughout their training, describing their induction as “the beginning of a sacred ministry of care.” According to her, Achievers University has provided them with world-class nursing education anchored on knowledge, skill, and compassion.

“You have toiled through the nights of study and endured the rigours of clinical practice. Now, clothed in white, you carry not just a uniform but a symbol of purity, dedication, and selfless service,” Prof. Irinoye said, urging them to be ambassadors of excellence and integrity in their professional journey.

The Dean, Faculty of Nursing Science, Prof. S. K. Olubiyi, announced that the faculty recently secured full accreditation from the NMCN, valid for five years. He also disclosed that the Council has approved the intake of 250 students per academic set, reflecting confidence in the University’s academic standards and facilities.

He added that the University remains committed to staff development, noting that the management had awarded postgraduate scholarships and automatic employment opportunities to deserving faculty members, reinforcing Achievers University’s dedication to quality and sustainability in nursing education.

Delivering a heartfelt valedictory speech, the overall best inductee, Miss Precious Olu-Ajayi, charged her colleagues to embrace their roles as “custodians of health and hope.”

“Impact is not only in grand gestures but in daily compassion, authenticity, and purpose,” she said.

The event also featured special awards to veteran nurses, Mrs. Mabel Omotoriogun and Mrs. Basirat Ajenike Oke, for their lifelong contributions to the nursing profession. In addition, students who distinguished themselves during their academic journey were honoured, including 13 first-class graduates who received special prizes for outstanding performance.

Goodwill messages and professional admonitions were delivered by representatives of key nursing bodies, including Mr. Felix Orobode of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Dr. Bolarinwa Oluwaseun of UGONSA, and the Director of Nursing Services, Ondo State, Mrs. Iyabo Aliu.

The colourful induction ceremony once again affirmed Achievers University’s position as one of Nigeria’s leading private universities in health sciences education, producing graduates who are globally competitive, ethically grounded, and socially responsible.
