In commemoration of World Malaria Day 2025, the Achievers University Health Centre received the Akure Branch Head of the United Healthcare International on Friday, April 25, to raise awareness and strengthen the fight against malaria. As part of the gesture, the organization donated 200 doses of anti-malaria drugs and 50 pieces of insecticide-treated mosquito nets to the University Health Centre.
The Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor Gbola Olayiwola and the Chief Nursing Officer of the University Health Centre, Mr. Oluwole Opeyemi received the donation on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor of Achievers University, Professor Omolola Irinoye. Professor Gbola Olayiwola appreciated the kind gesture on behalf of the University Management, describing the support as timely and impactful. He reaffirmed the University’s commitment to promoting the health and well-being of students and staff through collaborative partnerships.
Speaking during the presentation, the Branch Head of United Healthcare International, Mrs. Rita Adekanle, emphasized the organization’s obligation to promote preventive healthcare practices and support institutions in their malaria intervention programmes. She noted that the donation aligns with the 2025 theme for World Malaria Day, which focuses on accelerating the fight against malaria and reducing its prevalence among vulnerable populations.
United Healthcare International is the Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO) managing the students’ health insurance scheme under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) at Achievers University, Owo.
