Dr. Oluwakemi Omowumi Efemena is a geoscientist specializing in sedimentology, stratigraphy, and reservoir characterization, with research focuses in core analysis, biostratigraphy, sequence stratigraphy and ichnology. Passionate about uncovering Earth’s sedimentary records, she integrates field and subsurface data to reconstruct depositional environments, correlate stratigraphic units, and evaluate hydrocarbon reservoirs.
With a strong foundation in core description and reservoir evaluation, Efemena leverages biostratigraphic and ichnological tools to refine paleoenvironmental interpretations and enhance subsurface models. Her work bridges geological theory and applied energy geoscience, optimizing reservoir performance and reducing exploration risks. She has effectively supervised and mentored undergraduate students, while also offering valuable support to postgraduate students in their research.
Dr. Efemena holds a Ph.D. in Petroleum Geology from University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria. She has contributed to projects involving basins, formations, core analysis and is proficient in industry-standard software (e.g., Petrel) Dr. Efemena is an active member of Nigerian Society of Physical Sciences (NSPS), Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS), Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationist (NAPE), Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World South West, Women in Geosciences and Engineering (WiGE), Graduate Women International (GWI) Geneva, Switzerland and advocates for interdisciplinary collaboration in geoscience and related fields.
