Microsorum pteropus ‘Trident Mini’, also known as Java Fern Trident Mini, is a compact version of the popular Java Fern Trident. It features thin, forked leaves that create a more detailed, textured look while staying smaller in overall size.
Recently reclassified as Leptochilus pteropus, this plant is still widely known in the aquarium hobby as Microsorum pteropus. Like other Java Fern varieties, it is easy to care for and grows well in low light conditions, tolerating a wide range of aquarium parameters.
Its smaller size makes it especially versatile, working well in nano aquariums or as a detailed accent in larger planted tanks. The fine, branching leaf structure pairs nicely with other popular easy aquatic plants like Anubias, Bucephalandra or standard Java Fern, helping add contrast and color to an aquascape.
As an epiphytic plant, it can be attached to driftwood, rocks, or aquarium decor using thread or glue. Be sure to keep the rhizome above the substrate to prevent rot. Propagation is simple—just divide the rhizome and reattach as needed.
