MLSCN INDUCTS 43 ACHIEVERS UNIVERSITY GRADUATES INTO MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE PROFESSION

The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) on Wednesday, 15th October 2025, inducted 43 graduates of the Faculty of Medical Laboratory Science, Achievers University into the professional fold at the University’s 14th Induction and Oath-Taking Ceremony.

The induction, which marked another milestone in the University’s journey of training globally competitive health professionals, featured the administration of oath by the Acting Registrar/CEO of the Council, Dr. Donald Ofili, represented by Mrs. Ini Edeh, Director of Examinations of the Council. Delivering the goodwill message on behalf of the Council, Dr. Ofili congratulated the inductees and commended Achievers University for maintaining high academic and training standards aligned with global best practices. He reaffirmed the Council’s renewed commitment to strengthening regulatory oversight, accreditation and laboratory quality systems in line with evolving ISO standards.

“You are joining a profession that stands at the heart of medical diagnosis and research. Uphold the ethics, sustain professional competence, and let integrity guide your every action,” he charged.

In his keynote remarks, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of the University, Prof. Bode Ayorinde, urged the inductees to embody integrity and noble character as they transition into professional practice. He described the ceremony as a culmination of five years of intellectual transformation, anchored in the University’s core values. “This is the function of educational institutions — to rebrand, to reform and to create intellectuals. Today you stand as medical laboratory scientists because we have invested in your knowledge, values and discipline,” he stated.

Prof. Ayorinde re-echoed the University’s motto, Knowledge, Integrity and Leadership, stressing that character remains the sustaining force in any professional journey. “Your certificate and your connections can get you a job, but they cannot sustain you on the job. What keeps you there and elevates you is your character,” he added.

He also announced plans to immortalize the MLSCN’s immediate past Registrar/CEO by naming the faculty building Prof. Tosan Erhabor Building which would be ready for commissioning during the University’s 20th anniversary in 2027.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oyesoji Aremu, described the induction as a defining moment that celebrates resilience, competence and ethical commitment. He praised the inductees for their dedication through rigorous laboratory work and clinical exposure. “As you take the oath today, remember that it is a solemn promise to uphold honesty, diligence and ethical practice in your work. Your role in healthcare is crucial, and your integrity will be your greatest testimony,” he said.

Prof. Aremu reaffirmed the University’s investment in faculty development, research partnerships and infrastructure to sustain its reputation as a center of excellence.

Also, the Dean of the Faculty, MLS Professor Olabisi Oduwole, celebrated the academic and extracurricular strides of the faculty. She highlighted the success of the first alumna to complete a Master’s degree with distinction under a work-study PhD fellowship, and noted that many alumni are currently pursuing postgraduate studies both locally and internationally.

Beyond academics, she spotlighted the faculty’s growing presence in sports, with two female students recently representing Ondo State in interstate competitions, one earning a national call-up to the female handball team camp.

“Today marks the fulfilment of years of rigorous study and perseverance. The profession you are entering is central to healthcare delivery. Let integrity, compassion, and lifelong learning guide you,” she charged.

The chairperson of the induction committee, Mrs. J.A. Oke expressed gratitude to the University Management, MLSCN officials, the faculty, and parents for their support in making the ceremony a success.
