ACHIEVERS UNIVERSITY AND ITS PECULIARITIES

Achievers University, Owo, the first private university in Ondo and Ekiti states, is a cynosure of excellence and innovation in Nigeria’s higher education landscape. Since its establishment in 2007, the University has consistently broken new grounds, reshaping the narrative of what a private university can and should be.

  • As a private institution, Achievers University was the first in Nigeria to introduce the “Top-Up” programmes for HND graduates as far back as 2011, providing thousands of professionals with a renewed pathway to earn university degrees through the Achievers University Flexible Academic Programme (AUFAP). This pioneering initiative, conceived through the proprietary ingenuity of the University, has since evolved into a national model.
  • Unlike most private institutions in Nigeria, Achievers University demonstrates a strong commitment to nurturing future leaders by fostering an enabling environment where students freely elect their leaders. The University has also made a rare and strategic investment in student governance through the construction of an ultramodern Student Centre exclusively for the Achievers University Students’ Association (AUSA), the student leadership body equivalent to student union governments in public universities.
  • At Achievers University, structure and stability are not mere ideals—they are realities. Since inception, the University has operated under a sound University Law, with a fully functional Governing Council, which entered its fourth cycle of inauguration in June 2025. Remarkably, the University has maintained stable management leadership, with all principal officers serving their full tenures, ensuring continuity, consistency, and clarity of purpose.
  • With a strong emphasis on academic excellence, professional relevance, and entrepreneurial development, Achievers University currently offers 38 accredited academic programmes, approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and relevant professional bodies such as the Council of Legal Education, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Pharmacists Council of Nigeria, Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). These programmes span a wide range of disciplines that are globally recognised and highly sought-after such as Medicine and Surgery (MBBS), Law (LL.B), Pharmacy (Pharm. D), Nursing Science (B.NSc), Medical Laboratory Science (B.MLS), Physiotherapy (DPT), Accounting, Computer Science, Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, and Mass Communication among others.
  • In line with the NUC regulations, we uphold a quality assurance protocol that mandates 70% class attendance for students to qualify for examinations, ensuring seriousness, discipline, and commitment to learning.
  • The introduction of the College/Faculty Rating Board by the proprietor base is a unique internal performance evaluation system aimed not only to further strengthen accountability and foster healthy competition but also serves as a powerful tool for institutional growth and continuous improvement. This innovative initiative is designed to promote academic excellence, reduce disciplinary issues, and inspire both staff and students to consistently uphold high standards in teaching, learning, research, and character.
  • At Achievers University, we believe that academic pursuit should be complemented by strong spiritual and moral foundations in nurturing the total graduate — spirit, soul, and body. As part of our commitment to holistic education, each calendar year begins with our “Starting with God” service — a time of dedication, worship, and spiritual direction for the entire University community. The year concludes with a Christmas Carol celebration, marked by music, thanksgiving, and reflection. These spiritually enriching events foster unity, inspire hope, and reinforce the values of faith, gratitude, and purpose among students, staff, and faculty alike.
  • As a gender-friendly institution, Achievers University values fairness, representation, and equal opportunity in all areas of operation, creating a supportive environment where every student and staff member can succeed. Our dedication to gender balance and equal access to quality education is evident in our student body, with a female-to-male ratio of about 2:1. Our staff also reflects this balance, with a male-to-female ratio of approximately 2:1. This positive gender diversity extends into leadership, where women hold key strategic roles, including Vice-Chancellor, Bursar, University Librarian, Dean, Sub-Deans, and several Heads of Departments. These appointments highlight our commitment to inclusive leadership and empowering women within the academic and administrative structures of the university.
  • As a merit-driven institution, the University admits only qualified candidates, ensuring that our student body consists of bright, motivated, and capable individuals. Our academic and recruitment processes are guided by standards that foster excellence, integrity, and fairness.
  • Achievers University offers a unique and student-friendly school fees payment structure, making quality higher education more accessible with flexible options to ease the financial burden on students and families. Moreover, our scholarship opportunities have made it possible for thousands of talented students to actualize their dreams of earning degrees with ease.
