(PART TIME PROGRAMMES)

 

   

              The Centre for Extramural and foundation programmes of Achievers University Owo in collaboration       with the Distance Learning Centre of the University of Ibadan hereby invites suitable and qualified candidates for admission into the following Degree and Diploma Programmes for the 2009/2010 academic session. 

A.         DEGREE PROGRAMMES: 

1.         FACULTY OF ARTS:            

       (i)      B.A. Communication and Language Arts (4 & 5 Session)     

  •     Single & Combined honours in the following    
  •      Communication and Language Arts English    
  •      Communication and Language Arts and French                                         
    (ii)         B.A. English (4 & 5 Sessions)

    ·         Single & Combined honours in the following:

    ·         English and French
    ·         English and Linguistics
    (ii)                 B.A. Philosophy and Public Affairs (4 & 5 Sessions) 
    Entry requirements for the 4 Sessions Programme:Candidates with at least two A-Level papers, NCE or equivalent plus 5 O/L Credits at one sitting or 6 O/L Credits at 2 sittings including English Language, Literature in English for Communication and Language Arts and any other combination of arts subject are eligible for admission into the 4 – Sessions Programme. 
    English Department requires a pass in English Literature at A/L GCE, or at the Principal Level in HSC Examination or at least a merit in NCE and at least one other Arts subject. 
    Entry Requirements for Departments of English and Communication & Language Arts for the 5 Sessions Programme with O/L qualification.
    5 O/L Credits at one sitting or 6 O/L Credits at 2 sittings including English Language, Literature-in-English, an Arts subject and any other 2 or 3 subjects. 
        

2.         FACULTY OF EDUCATION:                  

     (i)         B.Ed. Library, Archival and Information Studies – 4 years           
    (ii)         B.Ed. Educational Management – 4 years           
    (iii)        B.Ed. Guidance and Counselling – 4/5 years           
    (iv)        B.Ed. Social Work – 4 years           
     (v)        B.Ed. Teacher Education – 4/5 years            
    B.ed. General Requirement.           
    Holders of the NCE, GCE, A/L or its equivalent. In addition, candidates must have 5 Credits at O/L including English Language at one sitting or 6 Credits at 2 sitting in SSCE/WAEC/NECO, Merit or Credit passes in TCII, obtained between 1967 and 1981 in English Language and 4 other Senate approved matriculating subjects (details are as listed in the University Calendar, 1996 – 98 Edition, pgs. 92 – 94).            
    For Library, Archival and Information Studies: Candidates must have at least a pass in Mathematics and Diploma in Librarianship at Credit level or Diploma in any other field or NCE in any discipline. Candidates will be allowed to select a teaching subject from their O/L results passed at Credit Level.           
    For Educational Management: Candidates must have Credit in English Language, Mathematics and Economics in addition to 2 other subjects in WASC/GCE O/L plus NCE in any of the following: Economics, Business Studies, Office Practice, Accounting, Insurance or Diploma in Statistics from a recognized University, University of Ibadan Professional Diploma in Educational Management (with at least an overall Merit Grade).
    For Guidance and Counselling: Candidates must have NCE in any field or Diploma in any field. In addition, candidates must satisfy the O/L requirements as for (i) above.
    For Teacher Education: Candidates must have Credit/Merit in NCE or Diploma in relevant subjects. In addition, candidates must satisfy the O/L requirement as for (i) above. Holders of NCE/Diploma in any discipline may be considered for the 4 year programme in Teacher Education but such candidates will be required to select teaching subjects from their O/L results passed at Credit Level.  

 3.         FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES:            

(i)         B.Sc Psychology – 4/5 years           

(ii)         B.Sc Economics – 4/5 years            

(iii)        B.Sc Political Science – 4/5 years          

   

B.SC Psychology           

Entry Requirements for the 4 Sessions Programme with A/L qualification: Candidates must possess 2 A/L passes including Government or History plus 5 O/L Credits at a sitting or 6 O/L Credits at 2 sittings in English Language and a pass in Mathematics and any one subject from the Social Sciences. 

NCE: not lower than a Credit pass, HND: not lower than a Credit pass from any discipline, NURSING: Registered with Nigerian Nursing and Midwifery Council (RNM), B.Sc: not lower than a 3rd Class from any discipline.

Entry Requirements for the 5 Sessions Programme with O/L qualification:5 O/L Credits at a sitting or 6 O/L Credits at 2 sittings in English Language and a pass in Mathematics and any one subject from the Social Sciences. 

BSC. ECONOMICS

Entry Requirements for the 4 Sessions Programme with A/L qualification:Candidates must have 2 A/L passes or its equivalent but O/L Credits should include Mathematics and Economics.In addition to the above requirement, Holders of HND/ND/OND/NCE/Diploma Certificates in the Faculties of The Social Sciences, Sciences and Education of accredited tertiary institutions can be admitted without prejudice to prescribed O/L requirements.  

Holders of Bachelors Degrees from Arts, Education and Social Sciences may be admitted without prejudice to prescribed O/L requirements. 

Entry requirement for the 5 Sessions with O/L qualification:Candidates must have 5 Credits at one sitting or 6 Credits at 2 sittings which should include Mathematics, Economics and English Language and any 2 of Arts or Social Science Subjects. 

Cognate department is interpreted to mean any discipline that is relevant to Economics and Business Studies except otherwise as excluded by the Department.             

 BSC. Political Science           

Entry requirement for the 5 Sessions programme with O/L qualification:Candidates must have 5 Credits at one sitting or 6 Credits at 2 sittings which should include Government or History, English Language and any other 3 subjects plus at least a pass in Mathematics.Entry requirements for the 4 Sessions programme.Any 2 A/L passes. 

4.         FACULTY OF SCIENCE:          

(i)         B.Sc Statistics – 4/5 years  

WASCE/SSCE/GCE O’L/NECO with at least 5 Credits at one sitting which must include Mathematics and English Language or 6 Credits in not more than 2 sittings which must include Mathematics and English Language.

Entry Requirement for the 4 Sessions programme:

i.          Holders of Professional Diploma in Statistics (PDS) of the University of Ibadan or its equivalent.

ii.          Holders of National Diploma (ND) in Statistics with a minimum of Lower Credit, from any recognized Polytechnic in Nigeria or its equivalent outside Nigeria. 

B.         DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES. 

1.         FACULTY OF ARTS:           

(I)         DIPLOMA IN HISTORY AND DIPLOMATIC STUDIES           

 ·         A minimum of 4 Credits at WASC/GCE O’L/TCII (1967 – 81) or their equivalent, including: English Language plus any one Arts or Social Science Subject.

·         Matured students above 35 years old with work experience of at least 10 years with Credit including English Language may be considered.           

2.         FACULTY OF SCIENCE:           

(I)         PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMA IN STATISTICS

·         WASC/SSCE/GCE/NECO with Credits in Mathematics, English Language and any other three subjects at one sitting. Candidates with ordinary pass in English Language may be considered if they have 6 Credits at 2 sittings.

·         Certificate in Assistant Statistical Officers Course of the Federal School of Statistics or its equivalent.

3.         FACULTY OF EDUCATION:           

(I)         DIPLOMA IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS AND TRADE UNIONISM

·         WASC/SSCE/GCE/NECO with at least 4 Credits including a pass in English Language obtained at not more than 2 sittings with at least 3 years of relevant work experience.

·         TCII (1967 – 81) with Merits in 4 subjects and at least 2 years of relevant work experience.

·         Certificate in Trade Unionism and Industrial Relations of University of Ibadan. (With a minimum score of 55%). 

(II)         DIPLOMA IN LIBRARIANSHIP

·         Membership of staff of an approved library with a record of at least one year, but preferably 2 years full-time library employment.With either:

(i)   WASC/SSCE/GCE/NECO with five Credits including English Language obtained at not more than 2 sittings.      OR                        

(ii) TCII (1967 – 81) with Merit in 5 subjects including English Language.

·         Mature candidates with at least 5 years of relevant work experience in related fields who can convince the University that they would be able to benefit from the course.

·         Sponsored candidates with 4 Credits may be admitted.                       

(III)        PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMA IN EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT

·         WASC/SSCE/GCE/NECO with at least 4 Credits including a pass in English Language obtained at not more than 2 sittings, with at least 3 years of relevant work experience.

·         TCII (1967 – 81) with at least 3 years of relevant work experience.

·         Matured candidates who do not possess any of the qualifications listed in i and ii above but have worked in an approved educational setting for at least 5 years and have at least passes in 5 subjects including English Language in WASC/GCE/SSCE /NECO/TCII may be considered for admission into the programme. 

(IV)       DIPLOMA IN TEACHER EDUCATION

(a)        Pre–Primary Education

(b)        Language Education

·         TCII (1967 – 81) with at least Merit in 3 subjects including English Language.

·         WASC/SSCE/GCE/NECO with Credit in at least 3 subjects including English Language.

·         Matured candidates who have at least a pass in subjects including English Language in WASC/SSCE/GCE/NECO or TCII and have 3 years work experience in the Audio-Visual Centres (candidates for Educational Technology) or at least 5 years of relevant experience in Pre-primary School (for Pre-Primary/Primary Education candidates). 


 

(V)        DIPLOMA IN SOCIAL WORK

 

·         WASC/SSCE/GCE/NECO with at least 5 Credits including English Language.

                ·         Certificate in Social Work 

·         Matured candidates with at least 4 ordinary pass in WASC/SSCE/GCE/NECO/TCII including English Language and have had 5 years cognate experience in Social Service Agencies.

  

(VI)       PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMA IN HIV/AIDS/STI EDUCATION

 

·         Entry requirements:  4 Credits including English Language while, concession will be given to matured candidates who do not possess minimum qualification but can show sufficient evidence that they have being working in HIV/AIDS related issues.

 

  C.       INTERACTIVE SESSIONS AND EXAMINATION:

Candidates within the catchment areas of Achievers University, Owo and any other candidates with preference for Owo, Ondo State will have their interactive sessions and examinations at Achievers University Owo. The catchment area includes Ondo, Ekiti, Kogi, Edo and Osun States.

 

  D.      METHOD OF APPLICATION:

Information available on www.dlcuionline.com. Application fee is N10,500.00. Applicants can also obtain hard copy of the form from Achievers University Owo or at Achievers Professional Training Group. 4, Oshuntokun Avenue  Bodija, Ibadan.

  

E.         ORIENTATION AND MATRICULATION:

It is mandatory for admitted students to participate in a two-day orientation programme and matriculation. The interactive sessions provide opportunities for students to socialize and integrate with the University community. Students within the catchment areas of Achievers University will have their orientation and matriculation at Achievers University Owo. 

F.       ACCOMMODATION:

The centre for Extra mural and Foundation programme of AU may assist students in    securing accommodation at Owo. Students are enjoined to apply in good time to the Director of the Centre.  

G.         GENERAL INFORMATION FOR DEGREE AND DIPLOMA STUDENTS:

 

i.          Entry requirements: All applicants must meet the entry requirement of University of Ibadan for Degree and Diploma programmes. See the website (www.dlcuionline.com) and the information handbills for detailed information.

 

ii.          All DLC students are required to be computer literate by end of second year. This is a graduation requirement. Candidates are advised to procure a Desktop or Laptop and register for the computer Literacy certificate of the Department of Computer Science of AU.

 

iii.         A computer-based communicative competence test shall be conducted. It shall also incorporate computer literacy and familiarity with ODL mode of study, which shall be conducted at the ICT center of AU. This shall be the primary basis for selection of candidates.

 

vi.         Students are required to enroll in the closed user group mobile phone facility to facilitate information and learning. Learning and students support will depend heavily on the mobile phone platform.

 

v.         Screening of Certificates: Certificates of qualified candidates would be screened. Candidates who present fake results and certificates shall be handed over to the police. At any point in time when documents are discovered to be inappropriate, candidates shall be advised to withdraw.

 

vi.         Biometric Data Capture: A Biometric Data Capture precedes final admission confirmation. This is at a cost to students. Information will be provided in due course. No student shall be allowed to write examinations without fulfilling their obligations. A date for this shall be announced.
